What is a bay window
A bay window projects outward from the wall instead of sitting flat in it. A large centre window is joined to two smaller side windows set at 30 or 45 degrees, so the assembly forms an alcove inside the room and breaks the flat line of the wall outside.
Because the glass faces three directions, a bay brings in more daylight than a flat window of the same width and opens wider angles of view onto the outdoors. The alcove itself adds usable space: a window seat, a plant shelf or a favourite spot for a pet.
A bay is often confused with a bow window. A bay projects in three sections with a distinct centre and two angled sides. A bow curves across four or more sections for a wider, gentler opening.
Bay window configurations
Bay windows are built with the side windows set at one of two angles. Both use the same frame system, glass packages and colour range as our other windows, so a bay can sit on the same elevation as casement or hung windows without a visible mismatch.
30 degree bay
The side windows return to the wall at 30 degrees. The assembly projects less from the wall and the centre unit takes up more of the width, which suits openings where the projection needs to stay shallow.
45 degree bay
The side windows return at 45 degrees. The bay projects further and the alcove inside is deeper, which gives the most usable space at the seat and the widest spread of daylight.
Bay window sizes
There is no standard bay size in Canadian replacement work. Every bay is manufactured to the measured opening, and the split between the centre unit and the side windows is drawn for each wall.

Why bay windows suit the Canadian climate
Every unit in a bay is a vinyl window manufactured in Canada, with a multi-chamber profile that adds insulating air pockets within the frame. Vinyl does not rot, does not need painting, and conducts far less heat than an aluminum frame through a Canadian winter.
Glass packages are double-pane with a low-e coating and argon fill as standard, or triple-pane with a third pane and a second sealed cavity for lower heat loss and reduced outside noise. Both are available ENERGY STAR certified for the climate zone the window is sold into.
Bay window installation
Bay window installation is measured, manufactured and fitted by Weather Pro crews rather than subcontracted trades. Two things get decided during the measurement, and both are easier to change before manufacture than after.

Retrofit or full frame
A retrofit keeps the existing sound frame. A full-frame replacement goes back to the rough opening and is required when the frame has rot or the opening has shifted.

Angle and split
Whether the side windows return at 30 or 45 degrees, and how the width is divided between the centre unit and the sides. This sets the projection and the depth of the alcove inside.
Most replacement projects are completed in a single day, and the transferable lifetime warranty is active from the day of installation.
Colours and finishes
White is the standard finish. Exterior colours and laminate finishes are available across the full range, and the interior can be finished differently from the exterior where the room calls for it.
The colour either runs through the vinyl profile or is applied as an exterior laminate, so it is not paint sitting on a surface. That means no repainting, no flaking and no chalky finish after a few Canadian winters.

- Most homeowners match the exterior to the soffit or the trim rather than the siding, since the frame reads as trim from the street.
- A white interior with a coloured exterior is the most common combination.
- Woodgrain interior laminates suit rooms that already have stained trim.
