What is the Greener Homes Grant?

The Canada Greener Homes Grant is offering up to 700,000 grants of up to
$5,000 to help Canadian homeowners make their homes more energy efficient.
In order to qualify for the grant a purchase and installation of ENERGY-STAR® windows are required.

Who is Eligible for the Greener Homes Initiative?

Eligible homeowners in Canada regardless of where they live can participate in the initiative.
The home must be the homeowner’s primary residence.
Eligible property types:
Single & semi-detached houses
Townhomes
Mobile homes on a permanent foundation
Permanently moored floating homes
Small multi-unit residential buildings (3 storeys or less with a footprint of 600m² or less)

Homeowners are required to provide proof of ownership and demonstrate the property is your primary residence. Only one homeowner can register.

3 Replace your hinged doors, with or without sidelites or transoms ENERGY STAR certified models: · U-Factor of 1.22 W/m²K or less · Energy Rating of 34 or more $125

You can receive $250 per rough opening for ENERGY STAR Most Efficient products and $125 per rough opening for ENERGY STAR certified products. The requirements for U-Factor (U-value) or Energy Rating are higher on the ENERGY STAR Most Efficient product in order to qualify for the higher amount. To achieve this higher standard with window products, you will usually need to purchase two coatings of Low-E instead of one.
A new window unit can be inserted into the existing frame of an old window, but replacements of only the glass, sash or door without a frame are not eligible.
The Greener Homes grant is not taxable and does not have to be included as income.
